Why organise your next holidays in Alpe d’Huez?

Nestled in the centre of the Isere department, Alpe d'Huez certainly deserves its nickname of "Île au soleil" (Sunshine Island). Its exceptional sunshine is its main asset. In April, you can enjoy 11 hours of sunshine (7h30 in December). However, this is not the only reason to plan your next holiday in this resort.

It also has a unique and beautiful landscape. Perched at an altitude of 1,860 metres, this picturesque village offers a 360° view of the surrounding valleys. On a clear day, you can enjoy a view of 1/5 of France from its highest point. At an altitude of 3,330 metres, the Pic Blanc (the third highest peak in the Grandes Rousses massif in Oisans) offers a beautiful panorama as far as the eye can see

Moreover, this ski area in Isere is a favourite destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Is this also the case for you? Well, there are no less than 250 kilometres of pistes at your disposal - divided into 111 marked routes. And the 80 ski lifts in the resort allow you to ascend in complete peace of mind.

The slopes of the Grand Domaine de l'Alpe d'Huez are south-west facing and they benefit from 300 days of sunshine every year. You can ski there in any season. Moreover, the artificial snow which currently covers 30% of the area allows the resort to better cope with climatic hazards.

Similarly, Alpe d'Huez is a land of tradition. As the home of the "Gens d'en Haut", the resort has managed to preserve the authenticity of the Oisans through an exceptional, rich and varied local gastronomy. In order to satisfy all demands, this picturesque village also offers a wide range of holiday rentals. From apartments with balconies in the centre of Alpe d'Huez to family chalets on the outskirts, you will be spoilt for choice. This picturesque village in the Isere region offers a change of scenery that will certainly delight you during your winter holidays. With so many activities to choose from, there is something for everyone in your group.

Not surprisingly, snow sports are the main attraction here. Escape Game (2 indoor rooms and 1 outdoor course), modern aquagym centre, introduction to aquapalming, swimming lessons, indoor artificial climbing structure, badminton and table tennis, etc., you are spoilt for choice.

Of course, you can also simply take advantage of the luxurious rooms of your holiday accommodation in Alpe d'Huez and its various facilities to make your stay all the more enjoyable. An indoor swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, hammam..., an apartment or a luxury chalet in Isere will certainly satisfy you.

The Lacs Besson cliff (2,150 metres), in particular, offers a magnificent setting where 150 routes of levels 5-6 are distributed. They are equipped to guarantee optimal safety. But you can also decide to climb around Grenoble which offers routes of different lengths.

For those who prefer to stay on the ground, hiking is another possibility. Again, there is a wide selection of routes to choose from. The ascent to the Col du Lac Blanc will reward you with a magnificent view of the Pic Blanc. While a descent from the Vallon de la Fare refuge will allow you to stop at some unique spots.

Another idea to fully appreciate the beauty of nature in Alpe d'Huez is to opt for a walk around the lakes. Lac Besson, Lac Noir, Lac Faucille and Lac Carrelet, discover them through a 9.5-kilometre hiking circuit. Alternatively, you can also choose the Plateau de Montfrais route, starting at an altitude of 2,100 metres. The return journey is by cable car.

The lakes (Besson, Les Bergers, Lac Blanc, Lac Noir, Faucille, Milieu) and streams (Sarenne, Rif Nel and Rif Brillant) are particularly suitable for this activity. For mountain bikers, this Isere ski resort offers perfect trails to reach even more beautiful places. There are 37 routes spread over 250 kilometres of marked mountain bike trails, overlooking the Oisans between 700 and 3,330 metres above sea level.

Where to ski in Alpe d’Huez?

Alpe d'Huez is the main resort of the Grand Domaine Ski. The slopes are accessible to all levels. Beginner skiers can go for the green areas of the Alpe d'Huez 1860 and Auris-en-Oisans 1600 resorts.

The more experienced skiers, on the other hand, will enjoy the red Bartavelles piste (between the Dôme des Petites Rousses and the Alpette). Perched at an altitude of between 1400 and 2600 metres, it offers an incredible playground punctuated by a panoramic view of the Oisans valley.

The famous Sarenne piste (black zone) is the most extreme one with its particularly demanding slopes. This run (at an altitude of 1,860 metres) is said to be the longest in the world.

In order to reach the different slopes of the Alpe d'Huez ski resort as easily as possible, you can opt for a holiday home with ski access. Your apartment or chalet with a balcony will also offer an unobstructed view of the Alps.
