Recognised by the French Ministry of Tourism, this label promises the resort's dedication to creating an exceptional experience for families and children. The resort takes this label seriously, now offering a range of activities, both on and off the slopes to keep any family happy and entertained. Let's unpack this fun-filled guide.

Family Skiing in Alpe d'Huez

Number one priority when visiting a resort like Alpe d'Huez is, of course, skiing! Children as young as two and a half can enrol in ski school, where they'll learn in a dedicated area under ideal conditions. Not only that, but little ones under the age of five ski for free! There are three dedicated play areas for you to ski as a family, including Chez Roger, Jacques le Bûcheron, and Marcel's Farm. You can even access three beginner lifts free of charge, no matter your age; these lifts include Tapis Petit Rif Nel, Petit Teleski École 2, and Tapis des Grenouilles. Ice Skating in Alpe d'Huez for Families

Located on the main street, Avenue Les Jeux, you'll find the patinoire (ice rink) in the centre of town. Children as young as three can lace up their skates and glide across the rink. Parents can rent a sledge to push around their toddlers as they teach them to skate. If you're lucky, you may visit when the ice garden is open, an area dedicated to children that appears a few times a week. Here, children can skate freely or participate in organised games. Numerous events are held here throughout the winter season for young children and separate LOL nights specifically for teens ages 12-15. Enjoy a unique experience that the whole family can participate in.

Family Escape Games in Alpe d'Huez

For families looking for a mind-bending challenge, sign up for an escape room. Suitable for children aged from 5 years old and adults, you can participate in 3 different escape rooms, but be sure to book in advance to confirm age restrictions, as some rooms won't allow younger participants. Games can be played in groups of 2 to 6, the entire family can team up to race against time and figure out how to escape! Alpe d'Huez even has a special ski room that you can't find anywhere else.

Outdoor Pool for Families in Alpe d’Huez

The AgorAlp is Alpe d'Huez's sport centre, offering over 30 activities, including an outdoor heated swimming pool. Take a splash in this aquatic haven, open year-round, take in the views of the surrounding landscape from this open-air swimming pool, which stays heated to 27°C. Centrally located on Avenue des Jeux, it is the perfect spot to visit with your family, and you may find yourself visiting more than once throughout your stay. Entry prices vary depending on the day, but children aged between 5 to 15 years receive a special lower rate. Be sure to check the opening times, as they differ throughout the year.

In'Vertigo - Parcour Adventures

Again, in the AgorAlp sports centre, where you also find the outdoor swimming pool, children can embark on an indoor adventure course. Available to children from 4 years old, they can take on this high-adrenaline indoor course. Participants can take part in dozens of workshops where they'll rock climb, walk along a wobbly rope bridge, climb up net ladders and more. These challenges are 8 metres above ground, but no harness is necessary; the course is enclosed by a safety net, ensuring your children return just as they arrived.

Learn Something as a Family

Want to take the kids on an educational excursion? The Alpe d'Huez museum of history and Archaeology is a must-visit spot with free entry for all guests. Guests 5 years and older are invited to learn about the history of the village of Huez and its Alpine pastures, dating back to the Middle Ages and continuing up to the present day. The museum has three permanent exhibitions sure to educate the entire family. The first, "Le Spectacle de la Montage", dives into the resort's transformation from chalets, mountaineering pioneers, and lesser-known events to a now internationally renowned resort. Continue your walk to discover the second exhibition, "Brandes et la Ruee Vers l'Arget des XIIIE Siecles," where you can learn about the archaeological past of the former mining village. A final exhibition, "Ete 1944. Le Maquis de l'Oisans", explores their heroic involvement in WWII.

Family Events and Festivals in Alpe d'Huez

Throughout the year, Alpe d'Huez hosts numerous events that are sure to entertain children of every age. In January, the resort hosts the annual Comedy Film Festival, where families can enjoy screenings and meet with international artists. During school holidays, the Alpe d'Huez ESF organises various ski competitions, designed to add fun and a competitive atmosphere to their holiday. Every April, Alpe d'Huez organises a Comic Festival in partnership with Glenat publishing company, welcoming author-illustrators to participate in book signings, workshops and screenings. This is a familiar favourite for children! Throughout the year, numerous competitions take place where the whole family can watch sports enthusiasts compete in triathlons, ski events, or even the downhill mountain bike race Megavalanche.
