In Alpe d'Huez, all-mountain and snow sports, as well as summer activities, are practiced under a bright sun. Mountain bikers and hikers are delighted to take up the torch from the skiers once the temperatures have increased, ensuring a constant flow of sportsmen and visitors to this French Alps destination.
Located on the old mountain pastures of the village of Huez, in the heart of the Grandes Rousses massif, Alpe d'Huez enjoys exceptional sunshine.
The sun shines on Alpe d'Huez about 300 days a year. This exceptionally mild microclimate has given it the nickname of Ile au Soleil. It's hard to find a mountain destination closer to its rural roots. The grassy plateau of Alpe d'Huez lives to the rhythm of the transhumance of cows and sheep, that come to graze during the summer in what turns into ski slopes in winter. This preserved and perpetually moving nature can be discovered on foot, by bike, on horseback or even be admired from the air. And of course, you can discover it by skiing down its 250 km of descents, that are divided into 135 marked trails, two snowparks and a boardercross.
The art of living and the quality of the Alpe d'Huez ski area in France are regularly rewarded by three major labels.
Winter sports enthusiasts will be delighted by the Station Grand Domaine and Station Nouvelles Glisses labels, that offer both ski access and single pass to an extended ski area. For the newbies, there are plenty of secured areas, with practice slopes and dedicated instructors.
Alpe d'Huez is also a Family Plus resort, because it offers a whole range of services and activities for holiday-goers and families with children (multi-reception day care, ski equipment for toddlers, cultural activities, dedicated sports equipment, etc.)
All year round, Alpe d'Huez has 1,700 inhabitants, but the flow of people visiting for holidays is permanent and possible thanks to a total capacity of around 32,500 beds in different modes of accommodation such as chalets and apartments.
The resort has the longest black slope in the world, with its 16 km of descent. It is naturally one of the local pride.
The Pic Blanc. From the top of its 3330 meters, the third highest peak of the Grandes Rousses massif offers a vast breathtaking panorama. An unmissable place to discover the best view, both during summer and winter.
The high altitude restaurant La Cabane is a great restaurant to try. In addition to being a warm place that offers quality products, La Cabane provides an exceptional 360 ° view of the surrounding mountains and the resort.
